Japan has abolished the immediate discount system. In 2026, you must pay full price and claim your refund at the airport.

Automated verification for KIX-Duty-Free partners.
Do not pack tax-free items before visiting the kiosk. Officers may demand physical inspection.
Cosmetics & food must remain sealed. Consumption in Japan voids the 10% refund.
Export must be completed within 90 days. Tax-Free forms cannot be used retroactively.
End-to-End Export Logistics
Eligibility limited to 'Temporary Visitors' (non-residents). Physical passport sticker required.
Buy at full price. Cashier scans passport for J-TaxRefund QR code. Limit ¥5,000+ per store.
Register purchases on the J-TaxRefund system or Visit Japan Web immediately after acquisition.
Items must remain unused and sealed (consumables). Export required within 90 days of purchase.
Arrive at Haneda/Narita/Kansai at least 3 hours before departure for customs validation.
Locate J-TaxRefund Kiosks in the departure hall (Landsie) BEFORE checking your bags.
Scan your passport at the kiosk. The system verifies all digital records against your ID.
If system flags a 'Red Result', present goods to a customs officer for manual inspection.
Approval is transmitted electronically to the central tax authority and your linked card.
Funds are credited to your account after departure. Processing typically takes 1-2 months.
